The SmartDreamers story began with sketches on a drawing board in an office in Targu Mures, Romania, back in 2013. Adrian Cernat, CEO & Co-Founder, with previous experience in talent acquisition software solutions, aimed to create a product that simplifies the connection between candidates and companies. While industries like e-commerce continuously optimized user experience, talent acquisition was dominated by legacy software solutions prioritizing recruitment processes over a candidate-centric approach. Something had to be done.
In 2014, Mihai Ceusan joined the company. After a year in the US as a Lead Developer at a fast-growing startup, Mihai developed a passion for startup environments. Fortunately, SmartDreamers was one of the few startups in Targu Mures. After a few coffees and discovering a great synergy, Mihai joined the business as CTO and Co-Founder.
The first investment round closed in 2014. By 2016, after initial traction in the CEE region, we closed our first VC investment round. However, the market in the region was too small for our initial business model. In 2018, we shifted from a job platform model to a SaaS Recruitment Marketing Software solution, aiming to transform talent acquisition from legacy to next-gen.
In February 2019, we signed our first global customer with our new product. We were fortunate to earn the trust of L’Oreal’s visionary team, who connected with our vision and took the risk of working with a small company whose product was not yet 100% ready. This scenario pushed us out of our comfort zone, adapting the product for deployment at some of the world’s largest companies. L’Oreal was our initial global customer, and from that point forward, we were privileged to welcome other leading global companies in our journey of building the most powerful recruitment marketing platform.
Most software solutions in the talent acquisition space are designed with recruiters and recruitment processes in mind. Even newer players, not just ATSs, focus primarily on recruiters. From the start, SmartDreamers was built to bring the best from the marketing world into talent acquisition, centering everything around the candidate.
Despite the advances in this space, we noticed numerous vital elements were still missing. Career websites built on templates, application forms requiring account creation, poor tracking capabilities, and inflated AI claims were common issues. We knew more was needed for a robust talent acquisition ecosystem.
Every new element we add to our product undergoes a critical check: how does it positively impact the candidate journey? This is the pillar on which the SmartDreamers product is built.
While we try to avoid making promises due to variables beyond our control, we can assure you that innovation is our backbone. We will continue to bring new solutions that transition the candidate journey.
